David Silva Signs One-Year Contract Extension With Real Sociedad
David Silva has made it official: the 35-year-old midfielder has signed a new one-year contract extension with Real Sociedad, meaning he will remain at the club until 2024.
The news was officially announced by the Spanish club, making it clear that the former Manchester City star had opted to stay in San Sebastian rather than move elsewhere. Despite reported interest from clubs in other European leagues, Silva chose to extend his stay at Real Sociedad and will be part of their squad for the upcoming season.
Silva joined Real Sociedad in July 2020 after a glorious 10-year spell with Manchester City, during which he won four Premier League titles and two FA Cups. He quickly became an integral part of Imanol Alguacil’s side, registering eight goals and seven assists in 34 appearances across all competitions as they secured Europa League qualification for 2021/22.
The Spain international has now committed his long-term future to La Real and is eager to continue helping them build on what they have accomplished so far. “I am very happy to continue defending this shirt,” said Silva upon signing the new deal. “I want to thank this great club for giving me all their support since my arrival.”
Real Sociedad president Jokin Aperribay echoed Silva’s sentiments, saying: “With David we have achieved one of our main objectives for this summer window – being able to count on a leader like him wearing our colors next season is fantastic news for us.”
Moreover, sporting director Roberto Olabe also expressed his delight at keeping hold of such an iconic figure within Spanish football: “We are extremely pleased and proud that David has decided to commit himself for another year at our club,” he said. “He was heavily courted by clubs from different leagues but his desire has been clear – he just wants to wear the Real Sociedad Equipacion 23/24.”
This latest development only highlights how keen both parties were to continue their successful relationship beyond this past season. Indeed, Silva proved an invaluable asset last term and his experience can help transform Real Sociedad into a major force in Spanish football once again. All eyes will be on him when Los Txuriurdines kick off their 2023/24 campaign later this year.
